“I’m Under Your Spell.” – Tara Maclay
Willow and Tara: Wanna Blessed Be & Wilderness 1 & 2
Written by Amber Benson, Christopher Golden, Anti Watson and more…
Growing up as a gay kid, in a small southern town, in the early 2000s, I unfortunately didn’t have the luxury of seeing characters that looked and sounded like me on television. However, the one queer couple that I did see on television was Willow and Tara via Buffy the Vampire Slayer. What I loved most about these characters was that their love felt real and organic, not just a poly for sweeps week. They were gay but being gay didn’t exactly equate to their identity it was just a part of who they were. And that I could relate. I absolutely loved what they brought to the universe and I was completely devastated during the Season 6 finale when Tara was stolen from us.
Up until recently I never really invested in graphic novels or comic books. However, the few that I did own were classic Buffy Dark Horse comics. These in-fact were the first I ever purchased. A three part series involving my favorite witch duo Willow and Tara written by Amber Benson herself. I recently reread them and it transported me back to my 6th grade self reading these comics. If this post ever makes it to Amber, I first want to thank you for giving us these stories, and secondly I want to say if you were to ever breathe life back into these characters and their stories I along with many people would be here for it.
The backdrop for this photo had to be epic, which is why I decided to go with an image I took at Poinsett Bridge. Poinsett Bridge is said to be the oldest bridge in South Carolina built in 1820 to connect Columbia to Saluda Mountain.
