“People think that intimacy is about sex. But intimacy is about truth. When you realize you can tell someone your truth, when you can show yourself to them, when you stand in front of them bare and their response is ‘you’re safe with me’- that’s intimacy.” – Taylor Jenkins Reid

The Late Night Book Club brought Evelyn Hugo into my life and to say I’m grateful would be an understatement. Described by Goodreads this novel fits into the genres of Historical Fiction, Romance, Contemporary, Adult, Adult Fiction, Women’s Fiction and LGBTQA+. To be perfectly honest I wasn’t prepared for how much LGBTQA+ representation was in this novel; however, I was here for all of it and the intersectionality it presented. Also as a gay man, I found it enlightening to see through the lens of a bisexual female and the discriminations faced by people within our very community, which made me self reflect on past relationships and behaviors. To Taylor Jenkins Reid, thank you for that.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo warmed my heart in ways that I couldn’t even imagine and I highly recommend this book to everyone.
