“First, high doses of chemo (again), then radiation (again) to prime him for the transplant. After the transplant, a risk of infection, and then waiting and seeing. ‘Believe it or not, the transplant is the quickest and easiest part of this whole thing,’ Freddie said. ‘Kind of anticlimactic.” – Ethan Joella

There is so much to love about, A Little Hope! It’s absolutely incredible and beautiful. This book, which is 275 pages, centers around a group of individuals living in Connecticut whose lives all intertwine. It’s about love and grief and how to navigate through difficult times. There is also a character who has multiple myeloma who has to have a transplant to beat his cancer diagnoses and as a survivor of acute lymphoblastic leukemia as well as a bone marrow transplant recipient I related immensely to his story arc. Joella got it right. Especially regarding how anticlimactic the actual transplant was.
Needless to say I gave this book a 5 out of 5 rating. It’s a phenomenal read. Highly recommend it.
